Princeton Writing Academy History: The Princeton Writing Academy has been serving students in Princeton for the past ten years. During this time we have helped hundreds of students thrive in Language Arts and go on to attend academic institutions such as the Phillip Exeter Academy, Choate, Columbia University, Cornell University, and Princeton University. Parents have appreciated the staff's earnest desire to see students flourish in English Language Arts and their willingness and ability to tailor the curriculum to meet individual needs.
Philosophy of Education:
Engage Students: We believe students are best served when they are actively and creatively engaged in their learning. Therefore, instructors provide an array of interesting exercises and challenging material in order to inspire students to lifetime excellence in writing.
Cultivate Cooperative Learning: We believe, that for many students, practicing writing in a group setting is the optimal way to promote understanding, confidence and excellence in English Language Arts. For this reason our primary class offering is delivered in a small group setting.
Impart knowledge and Facilitate Understanding: We believe students genuinely enjoy true learning. Such learning will stay with them when they have the opportunity to put it into action. Therefore, instructors strive to provide a new concept, strategy or skill and allocate class time for students to practice implementing that new learning in each session.
Monitor Progress and Set Goals: We believe learning is a lifelong journey and documenting where we have been, knowing where we are and seeing where we would like to go, is essential to growth. Therefore, instructors keep ongoing reports of students’ progress. These reports are available for students and parents to access throughout the semester. Educational goals include meeting CORE standards and achieving excellence on standardized tests, but even more importantly, our goal is to teach students how to plumb their depths for insight and to find ways to articulate the connections they make and the discoveries they find. In other words...
We encourage students to delve deep to write well.
